Sonny Bill Fight

July 1, 2010

Well, sadly former NRL law-breaker Sonny Bill Williams entered the boxing ring for his second fight earlier this week in Queensland, Australia – with many hoping to see some real boxing.

Spectators and Pay-TV viewers were sadly disappointed.

The insanely fit Sonny Bill was to fight an extremely overweight opponent, that according to Australian champion boxer Danny Green was not even in a condition to jog to the fridge let alone take to the ring against SBW.

It only took Sonny Bill 2 minutes to pick apart, more aptly destroy his opponent and leave the chubby ‘butterbean’ style boxer gasping for air on the canvas.

In some ways the poorly-sanctioned fight took away from the main event, where fellow ‘bro’ Anthony Mundine took on his Argentinian opponent. With Mundine going the distance and winning the boxing-bout on points.

For SBW who is headed to Super 15 Rugby to play with the Canterbury Crusaders in 2011 – it seems this could be his last fight for quite some time.

It’s interesting, ‘How old is Sonny Bill Williams?’ you may ask. Well, at only 23 this kid still has a big career ahead of him. Whether he achieves his goal of playing for the All Blacks, with Rugby purists believing the Kiwi Rugby Union will fast-track if not roll the red carpet out to get him there – but essentially if it all fails – Sonny Bill could choose a career in boxing, albeit with the potential glove man facing decent opponents.

Or he could return to Rugby League, once his NRL ban is lifted by the Bulldogs at the expiry of his former deal.
