What kind of impact will the return of Sonny Bill Williams have in Australia?

Sonny Bill Williams’ upcoming return to Australia for a Barbarians match has created massive media and fan interest in Australia. With most NRL (Rugby League) fans along with the extended community ‘hating’ on Sonny Bill for walking out on a contract, how much heat will he feel in his old town?

Two extreme sides have countered blow for blow this week in a debate that has clearly enraged the lucky nation.

Rightfully, some reckon they should just get over it but the other half of the 400 messages posted on the Daily Telegraph illustrate exactly why he is more hated than the Bali bombers.

Here is an extreme example, but I warn read with caution: (This was printed on the tvnz.co.nz website)

“I am a Bulldogs Fan to the death and i am willing to put up my 2004 signed grand-final bulldogs jersey for anybody willing to shoot SBW in the head. I will give an un-signed 1 for just a “body shot”, SBW is a dog and would sell out his own family for the right price.” – Christopher. J

Certainly a very scary prospect that people will even threaten this kind of thing; no doubt security at the Australian Rugby Union fixture will need to be extremely tight.

    leave him alone. At the end of the day every sportsman has a limited time to make their impact and career. If Sonny Bill can make a better return from playing rugby good on him.

    Honestly who cares what Sonny has done. By the end of the day it’s his choice for what he does with his life. You don’t need to be arguing about what he has done in his past or the present time, as if he gives a shit about what you think

    sonny bill williams is the man for leaving league its just a one dimentional game is rugby league union is by far a more better game to watch and it requiers players to more skilled in the positions to play so HA! and besides

    I’d love to see him back in the blue and white personally. He’s great for the game. He’s just a young bloke who may have made some poor decisions…just like the rest of us.

    I believe that SBW has no right to be Australias most hated. Its was his choice to walk out on the Bulldogs. I personally was very angry myself when I heard about it but then as time went past, I got over it. At the end of the day, it was SBW and his familys choice so I would say “good on him”. He said that there was one big reason why he went over to France anyways. 2 big words “TANA UMAGA” . Yes short in its spelling but big in is meaning. Arguably one of the Worlds Best Rugby Union Players that ever lived.

    hahaha. well lets see we all have own life right so why hate on Sonny even though he left da bulldogs mate.. let me tell u one fink Sonny is my greatest FAN !! hahah :) hes nice kinda and even though he did somethings wrong i was a mistake.. people change mans….
