Sonny Bill Williams; Bulldogs Captaincy?

March 6, 2008

With the departure of Willie Mason, Roy Asotasi and Mark O’Meley – SBW has quickly risen up the pecking order in terms of seniority at the Bulldogs.

While Andrew Ryan remains the firm first choice as club captain, Sonny Bill Williams has confirmed recently his desire to captain the Bulldogs in the future. Ryan is set to be around for a while yet, but the indication from SBW will warm the hearts of the Dogs fan who might have been worried that Sonny would head else where in the NRL or even Super League to get away from the dramas in Belmore.

The other interesting aspect for SBW is his general quite manner on the Rugby League field. Sure, he hits hard and plays out of his skin, but he rarely talks it up on the field and would probably lead purely by example rather than speech.

NRL Results will be critical this year for SBW and the Bulldogs, with coach Steve Folkes’ life on the line and that of the Bulldogs into the future. Reports day of new signings may help if they come off; with Israel Folau, Carl Webb and others being targetted by the Bulldogs.
